PRESIDENT Nangolo Mbumba officially inaugurated the Hosea Kutako Memorial Museum and Homestead Shrine on Tuesday at Toasis in the Aminuis Constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inauguration took place at the homestead of the widely revered nation-builder and Ombara Otjitambi, Hosea Komombumbi Katjikururume Kutako.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Mbumba, Chief Kutako was an exemplary nationalist and a leader of peace, unity, and justice for the Namibian people.<\/p>\n\n\n

Mbumba said that Chief Kutako’s homestead represents more than a historical site; it symbolizes resistance against German colonialism and the illegal apartheid occupation of Namibia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt represents the unity of the Namibian people, which carried them through the formidable but victorious fight against racism, German colonialism, and illegal apartheid occupation. It stands as a testament to the resilience of our struggle for independence and our efforts to build a country united in diversity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasized that the inauguration was part of a collective effort to build the Namibian House by celebrating and memorializing those who made outstanding contributions to the nation\u2019s journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President highlighted Chief Kutako\u2019s resistance to colonial oppression and his courageous and visionary leadership in uniting Namibians to fight a common enemy and forge a shared future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mbumba added that since independence, Chief Kutako\u2019s legacy has been honoured in various ways. Namibia’s main airport was renamed Hosea Kutako International Airport, and one of the key roads in Windhoek also bears his name. Additionally, a statue of Chief Kutako stands in front of Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery place of heritage is more than just heritage; it is about nation-building. For every Namibia Dollar we spend on heritage, we should be innovative in creating employment opportunities for Namibians,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President expressed satisfaction that the construction phase of the memorial created many job opportunities for local residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking ahead, he encouraged the use of the National Heritage Place as a catalyst for cultural tourism and economic growth. He urged the National Heritage Council to collaborate with the Omaheke Regional Council, traditional leaders, and economic actors to unlock opportunities for small businesses and other economic activities in the area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
