{"id":366727,"date":"2024-11-25T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-11-25T10:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=366727"},"modified":"2024-11-25T11:39:49","modified_gmt":"2024-11-25T09:39:49","slug":"ecn-committed-to-addressing-polling-officials-grievances","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=366727","title":{"rendered":"ECN committed to addressing polling officials&#8217; grievances"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maria David<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">THE Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has committed to addressing grievances raised by some polling officials regarding their daily training allowance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was said by ECN Chief Executive Officer Peter Shaama in a statement issued on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shaama assured all electoral stakeholders that the matter is receiving the highest level of attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe Commission remains committed to conducting free, fair, and credible elections, and preparations are proceeding as planned,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He urged all stakeholders to maintain confidence in the Commission&#8217;s readiness to fulfil its mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This comes after some polling officials, who recently completed training for the elections set for November 27, 2024, demanded better wages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The grievances include a request for a 100% increase in the daily training allowance, currently set at N$150.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Shaama clarified that while the Commission understands the financial pressures expressed by these officials, the disputed allowance was clearly said in the advertised call for applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt therefore goes without saying that applicants who responded to this call accepted these terms upon selection and became contractually bound,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shaama emphasized that the Commission is addressing the matter and the grievances raised, with the aim of reaching an amicable solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also extended gratitude to all polling officials for their dedication and hard work in ensuring the success of the elections.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maria David THE Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has committed to addressing grievances raised by some polling officials regarding their daily training allowance.
