A CASE of attempted murder is being investigated by the police in the Oshana Region after a 48-year-old man allegedly opened fire on several police officers in Oshakati.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Oshakati West, next to the Catholic church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oshana Crime Investigation Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Frederick Ndjadila, said the suspect faces charges of being in possession of a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm in a municipal area, and resisting lawful arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It is alleged that members of the Oshakati Crime Prevention Shift (B) went to effect the arrest of a suspect in a previously reported case, Oshakati CR 87\/10\/2024, for (1) pointing a firearm and (2) assault by threat under the Domestic Violence Act,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that upon arrival at the suspect’s house, the officers met the suspect\u2019s mother, who informed them that the suspect was in his room and pointed to his door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ndjadila indicated that the officers knocked on the suspect’s door several times, called him by name, and identified themselves as police officers, asking him to open the door and come out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the suspect did not respond but instead opened fire with a pistol through a half-opened wooden door, shooting in the direction of the police officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The police officers quickly took cover and called for backup. The suspect was later arrested, and no injuries were sustained by either the police officers or the suspect,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ndjadila said the weapons and ammunition were confiscated and booked as exhibits in Pol 7.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
