{"id":363946,"date":"2024-10-08T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-08T07:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=363946"},"modified":"2024-10-07T17:25:46","modified_gmt":"2024-10-07T15:25:46","slug":"around-70-foreign-nationals-among-those-affected-by-walvis-bay-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=363946","title":{"rendered":"Around 70 foreign nationals among those affected by Walvis Bay fire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Staff Reporter<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">AT LEAST 70 of the people who lost their homes in the devastating fire on Friday night, 4 October 2024, in Walvis Bay&#8217;s Otweya location are non-Namibians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was revealed by the Municipality of Walvis Bay, which explained that the fire, which destroyed about 80 shacks and claimed one life, broke out on an erf belonging to the National Housing Enterprise that the victims had illegally occupied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Municipality announced that it will engage with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security on how to address the situation of the foreign nationals. For now, the municipality has provided two large tents as temporary shelter for the affected families.
