It is alleged that the fire started in one shack and spread to others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jantjies was burnt beyond recognition, but his identity was confirmed, as he had been heard screaming for help but could not be saved due to the intensity of the flames.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage. A total of five shacks were destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The police reported that most of the properties, including the corrugated iron sheets, were destroyed, with an estimated value of N$70,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Keetmanshoop Fire Brigade and Police attended the scene, and the next of kin of the deceased have been informed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Staff Reporter A 33-YEAR-OLD man, identified as Xavier Francois Jantjies, died in a shack fire in Keetmanshoop on Saturday.
