This effort aims to alleviate the plight of marginalized workers who have been without land and are scattered along the corridors of urban areas as they do not have communal land to retreat to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a question posed, Member of Parliament, McHenry Venaani, inquired if the government is aware that the \/Khomanin people are forced to brave the natural elements. Generational farm workers are defined as those who were born, live, and work on farms for many generations. These farm workers may have no other place they call home apart from the farm(s) on which they were born and\/or have worked on for generations,&#8221; Schlettwein said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that the Ministry has begun validating the generational farm worker applications received from the eight (8) Regions, which include: \/\/Kharas, Erongo, Hardap, Kunene, Omaheke, Oshikoto, and Otjozondjupa, all with commercial farms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This information on generational farm workers will be used for decision-making to address the challenges faced by the \/Khomanin community and all other communities living on private farms as generational farm workers,&#8221; Schlettwein said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, the minister mentioned that the government recently acquired two farms, Portion 1 of Farm Groot Korasieplaatz No. 440 and Remainder of Farm Korasieplaatz No. 440, in the Khomas Region, with sizes of 4321.4135 ha and 3811.5334 ha, respectively (a total combination size of 8132.9469), at purchase prices of N$22,601,313.15 and N$11,257,785.85.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He explained that the farms&#8217; ownership was transferred from the sellers to the Government on the 8th of August 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;These farms, and others to be acquired in the future, are primarily for the \/Khomanin Traditional Authority in response to the Land Conference resolutions for the creation and expansion of communal areas in the regions for allocation to landless people and evicted farm workers. Additionally, the \/Khomanin Traditional Authority was gazetted over Farm Arovley No. 52, where the Traditional Authority has been allocating their community. Although it&#8217;s a resettlement farm, they have been allocated there to manage their affairs from that farm house,&#8221; Schlettwein said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further explained that It is worth noting that, apart from the group resettlement farms, individual \/Khomanin people have also been prioritized in the allocation of land, as recommended by the Khomas Regional Resettlement Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;In summary, the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation is spearheading the development of a policy to protect generational farm workers by providing alternative residences or allocating a portion of land to such workers.
