As of April 18, 2023, FirstRand Namibia is the largest company on the exchange, boasting a market capitalization of N$ 9.9 billion. Capricorn Group is a close second with N$ 7.3 billion, followed by Namibia Breweries and Mobile Telecommunications with N$ 6.6 billion and N$ 5.3 billion, respectively. Capricorn Group led the market this week, with a 2.2% growth that pushed its share price to N$ 14.15. Agra followed closely, closing at N$ 2.98 after a 0.7% growth. Namibia Breweries had the highest trading volume, with N$ 4.9 million worth of shares traded, followed by Capricorn Group with N$ 2.2 million. The local currency also performed well, gaining 1.16% against the US dollar to close at N$ 18.16 per USD, and 1.14% against the British pound to close at N$ 22.56 per GBP. The decision was made to balance the need to anchor inflation expectations, support the peg arrangement, and avoid negatively impacting the domestic economy. Meanwhile, the IMF recently released their World Economic Outlook for April 2023, revealing a global economic slowdown that is broader and sharper than expected. This is due to a combination of factors, including higher inflation, tightening financial conditions, Russia&#8217;s invasion of Ukraine, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
