EENST Josef Lichtenstrasser, the man who confessed to the murder of two senior executives of NIMT in Arandis said he lost it when Mueller said to him in German \u201cWhat are you doing here? Get lost\u201d.<\/p>\n
Lichtenstrasser, who confessed to have shot Mueller and Hellwig, made these confessions to the police on 15 May 2019 and the recordings were read into the court record by inspector Reinhardt Maletzky, who was also part of the team investigating the murders.<\/p>\n
According to the recording read by Inspector Maletzky before court, Lichtenstrasser confessed that he gunned down Eckhardt Mueller, the NIMT\u2019s executive director at the time, and his deputy Heinz Heimo Hellwig by firing shots at them while entering the Arandis NIMT offices on 15 April 2019.<\/p>\n
The confessed murderer said he drove from his house to Arandis the previous evening between 22:00 and 23:00. It was further testified that, when got there, he then decided to drive into the desert for some kilometres, where he continuously took strong painkillers with alcohol, and later started to hallucinate with voices in his head, talking to him and asking him if it is really worth it. At the same time, according to the recording, the other voice in his head was saying Mueller deserved it, and that he was his enemy who was on a mission.<\/p>\n
The next morning, he confessed, he drove to the NIMT Campus to lure Mueller and his deputy, Hellwig and allegedly followed them when he saw their car approaching and parked behind them. At this point, he confessed, he was still not sure what to do but got triggered when Hellwig saw him and asked him what he was doing there.<\/p>\n
\u201cI took out the gun and went into training mode. It became automatic when Mueller said to me in German; What are you doing here? Get Lost\u201d He confessed in the recording.<\/p>\n
He was of the view that he first gunned down Hellwig but Hellwig did not, according to the recording, fall immediately to the ground and he kept firing, where after body shots, he proceeded and shot him in the head. To this, he maintained that it was the tone of the voice in which Mueller spoke to him that triggered the execution.<\/p>\n
It was further put on the court record that from there, according to his confession, he drove in the direction of Usakos and then went into the desert. He buried the firearm and some ammunition he still had on him.<\/p>\n
Although Lichtenstrasser pleaded not guilty and at the same time claimed the confessions were made illegally, Judge Christie Lienberberg of the High Court of Namibia ruled that the confessions made are admissible and will be used as evidence in the trial.<\/p>\n
Lichtenstrasser, who is still behind bars as a trial awaiting inmate, is represented by Albert Titus from Legal Aid, while the state prosecutions are led by prosecutor Antonia Verhoef.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
