Photos: Contributed<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><a class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-prev swiper-button-prev swiper-button-white\" role=\"button\"><\/a><a class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-next swiper-button-next swiper-button-white\" role=\"button\"><\/a><a aria-label=\"Pause Slideshow\" class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-pause\" role=\"button\"><\/a><div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_pagination swiper-pagination swiper-pagination-white\"><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The mayor of the town, John Ndeutepo, is of a different view.<\/p>\n<p>He says that Omuthiya is located in a low-lying area where the rainwater drains naturally in a north-south direction.<\/p>\n<p>He says that natural drainage is now blocked by people who erected structures in the waterways.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Only the structures built in natural waterways were affected and the owners of those buildings are to blame,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The flooding affected several business complexes, paralyzing normal service delivery and transforming streets into rivulets that are impassable by vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Ndeutepo says there is nothing the council can do now, but there are long term plans, including rainwater harvesting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The council has already allocated a budget for a feasibility study,&#8221; said Ndeutepo.<\/p>\n<p>More rain is still expected countrywide over the next few days.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Staff Reporter PARTS of the Omuthiya town in the Oshikoto Region are flooded following heavy rainfall from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning.
