One is responsible for chronicling the history of Oukwanyama (geographic area) and Ovakwanyama (the people), while the other is tasked with collecting artefacts for the museum.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The museum project&#8217;s total cost was initially estimated at N$8.5 million, but this amount is believed to have escalated due to inflation over the past nine years.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Shikomba noted that the initial phase of the project enjoyed tremendous financial and material support from a variety of sources, mostly from livestock farmers. &#8220;Noteworthy was the donation of ten head of cattle from a single farmer,&#8221; said Shikomba.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>However, he said much more support is still needed in order to complete the project, therefore the fundraiser at Omhedi on March 19.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>About 500 people are expected to attend, including prominent leaders and business personalities who were specifically invited.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The King Mandume Museum is being erected near the Omhedi Palace.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The overall site plan includes an administration block, ablution facilities, a house for curator, a guard house, a handicraft workshop, a hall and the Museum proper.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The museum is in honour of the Oukwanyama King Mandume Ya Ndemufayo who died fighting against colonial forces in February 1917.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The annual commemoration of his death will, henceforth, take place at the Museum at Omhedi.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Placido Hilukilwa THE project to construct the King Mandume Museum at the Omhedi village in the Ohangwena Region is now gaining momentum after about ten years of slow progress.
