LEAVING a house unattended for days or weeks can, sometimes, be more expensive than engaging a private security services provider or merely using backup people to keep an eye on the property.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
This has been proven time and again at Ongwediva where housebreaking has become endemic and where some residents keep ignoring the Namibian Police’s exhortation to always alert neighbours or engage security service providers instead of leaving a house unattended for a prolonged period.<\/p>\n

In the latest housebreaking incident, it was reported that a resident of Ongwediva’s New Reception Phase 1 left her residence unattended and travelled to the rural area two weeks ago.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The house was properly locked and everything was in order.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
She made it a point to ask a friend who on 6 February went to check at the residence and confirmed that things were still in order.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
However, things changed five days later when the house owner was notified that the house was broken into.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Items that were stolen are valued at slightly over N$20 000. They include a queen-size bed, a double bed mattress, a freezer, one microwave, two ovens, a gas cylinder, seven blankets of varied sizes, and diverse pieces of clothes for women.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Incidents of housebreaking are showing a steady increase at Ongwediva since last year.<\/p>\n
