{"id":314094,"date":"2022-02-08T17:34:22","date_gmt":"2022-02-08T15:34:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=314094"},"modified":"2022-02-08T17:34:27","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T15:34:27","slug":"hishoono-begs-for-mercy-and-leniency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=314094","title":{"rendered":"Hishoono begs for mercy and leniency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Zorena Jantze<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>INDEPENDENT Patriots for Change (IPC) councillor Abed Bishop Hishoono on Tuesday begged for mercy and leniency in the Windhoek High court stating that he cannot afford the N$350 000 civil lawsuit claim instituted against him by the First Lady of Namibia, Monica Kalondo Geingos.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Hishoono made the remarks before Judge Orben Sibeya when he submitted his closing arguments.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Hishoono was sued by the First Lady after a video he authored went viral in which he alleged that Geingos played a clandestine role in the liquidation of Air Namibia due to supposed business interests she had in WestAir Aviation.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"304\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 640 \/ 304;\" width=\"640\" controls src=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Hishoono-begs-for-mercy-and-leniency.mp4\"><\/video><figcaption>BEGGING FOR MERCY: Some scenes from the Windhoek High Court. Video: Samuel Shinedima<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<p>He claimed that Geingos conceived a child with Fishrot-accused James Hatuikulipi and that Hatuikulipi had \u201csupplied\u201d Geingos as a wife to President Hage Geingob.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>However, on Tuesday in court the high school teacher and politician swallowed his words, admitting to Judge Sibeya that the allegations he made were false.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI believe that I\u2019m being made an example. I\u2019m a teacher but I\u2019m being schooled here by [Sisa] Namandje.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rumours existed before I made the video. I would like to take responsibility for the video. After the summons, I took the time to talk to some people about the First Lady. She is a wonderful person and she does a lot of things for people, and has multiple awards which are international as well. One would not wish to cause harm to such a person,\u201d Hishoono said.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>He further queried the court if there is still a window open to tender another apology to the First Lady and asked the court for leniency and mercy in its judgement.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe money I\u2019m being sued for is double my yearly income. I\u2019ve been a civil servant since 2014, and I have had no salary increase since. I was wondering if the amount could be taken out and if I could do community service instead,\u201d Hishoono asked.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Judge Sibeya stated that community service is not an option in cases of this nature.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>In response, Hishoono implored the First Lady as the mother of the Namibian nation to not only \u201cbeat\u201d one child who has repeated the mistakes of all the other children.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>He further noted that while it is a motherly thing to defend rumours levelled against her own children, it would be unfair that the First Lady while protecting her family destroys his.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Judge Sibeya asked Hishoono if he agrees that the statements he made in the video were harmful to the First Lady\u2019s reputation and dignity.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Hishoono could not give a straight answer and noted that his remarks could be harmful if taken out of proportion.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>In his heads of arguments, the First Lady\u2019s legal counsel, Sisa Namandje, argued that the matter involves aggravated defamation and the violation of her constitutional right to dignity.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Namandje further noted that the defendant failed to prove the rumours which he allegedly repeated as well as the factualness of the remarks he made about the First Lady on the video.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>He further noted that Hishoono tried to act as a victim, accusing Geingos of suing him out of political motives which aggravated the matter as well.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe suggested on social media that the plaintiff wants him.
