IN a dramatic turn of events, the Namibian police are investigating charges of defeating the ends of justice against Alta van Wyk, widow of the late Gerhard van Wyk and the main eyewitness in a shooting incident involving British billionaire Harvey Boulter on 27 February last year.

The charges against Van Wyk might include extortion, after a claim of N$55 million from a South African law firm came a day before the appearance of Boulter in the Kamanjab Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder.

Boulter was released on bail of N$500 000 after pleading not guilty on charges of murder, possession of a firearm and ammunition, and obstructing the course of justice. Before that he had spent 141 days in custody as a murder suspect and in hospital for various procedures on his left hand where the bullet entered before entering the body of Van Wyk who succumbed to his injuries on his way to the Outjo Hospital.

Boulter’s case was postponed in September last year to allow the Prosecutor-General to decide on the charges to be put to Boulter.

In the meantime, it emerged from sworn affidavits from prominent Namibians that Alta van Wyk wanted to change her statement that Boulter pointed a gun at the head of her husband before the scuffle in which a gun went off, leaving both Boulter and the deceased wounded during a struggle.

In a statement from Boulter now laying charges against Van Wyk with the knowledge of his attorneys, Sisa Namandje and Kadhila Amoomo, Van Wyk was given ample opportunity to change her alleged false version of the tragic events, but allegedly refused to do so without payment of N$55 million through a South-African law firm.

Boulter will appear in the Kamanjab Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Dramatic twist in Kamanjab shooting
