Photo by Maria David<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><a class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-prev swiper-button-prev swiper-button-white\" role=\"button\"><\/a><a class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-next swiper-button-next swiper-button-white\" role=\"button\"><\/a><a aria-label=\"Pause Slideshow\" class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-pause\" role=\"button\"><\/a><div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_pagination swiper-pagination swiper-pagination-white\"><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, the MEFT and NYS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strength their ties and ensure productivity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nghitila stated that the 820km long fence is expected to be complete in the next two years.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Of the 820km long fence, about 130km has already been completed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Etosha National Park is one of the oldest and is Namibia\u2019s number one tourist destination, thus it is crucial to upgrade the infrastructure of the park to ensure that it continues to attract more tourists,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He noted that an additional 25 people from Onanke village in the Oshikoto Region are also expected to join youths from NYS with the upgrading of the fence.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This number will, however, double as time goes on.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The fence of the national park is in a deplorable condition, with some areas of the fence completely exposed, causing\u00a0livestock to graze into the park, and wild animals to leave the park.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This often leads to incidents of human wildlife conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Musukubili stated that through the voluntary services program, a total of 10 youths were deployed to the national park to assist with the maintenance of the boundary fence.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He noted that they have over 6 000 trained youths, with about 3 000 deployed to various sectors.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have already deployed over 100 youths dealing with forestry in the ministry,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Musukubili concluded that as part of their agreement, the NYS will avail as many youths as is required to complete the fence.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!-- MetaSlider 271797 not found --><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maria David\u00a0 \u00a0 VOLUNTEERS from the National Youth Service (NYS) will mend the fence around the Etosha National Park and help government save millions of dollars by cutting out costly private companies. \u00a0 Executive Director of the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT), Theofilus Nghitila, said about N$2 million has been budgeted and will &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":309514,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[33,24],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-309509","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking-news","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.5 -
