{"id":303935,"date":"2021-05-08T08:01:39","date_gmt":"2021-05-08T06:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=303935"},"modified":"2021-05-08T08:01:42","modified_gmt":"2021-05-08T06:01:42","slug":"nbc-strike-remains-unresolved","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=303935","title":{"rendered":"NBC strike remains unresolved"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Marthina Mutanga<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>THE Board of Directors of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation has welcomed back a small number of workers who decided to abandon the strike currently underway.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, the NBC board said that the number of workers that are abandoning the strike has grown since Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would like to applaud the NBC staff that remained at work while also thanking those striking employees who have decided to return to work in order to serve the Namibian Nation diligently,\u201d the board said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When the strike started with 67 employees opted not to go on strike. That number has grown to 141 as the no-work-no-pay clause has seen the striking employees facing difficult financial circumstances when their next salary would become due in May.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"303\" height=\"422\" src=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/NBC-strike-remains-unresolved.png\" alt=\"NBC strike Board Directors Namibian Broadcasting Corporation workers\" class=\"wp-image-303927\" srcset=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/NBC-strike-remains-unresolved.png 215w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/NBC-strike-remains-unresolved.png 303w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 303px) 100vw, 303px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The NBC repeated its request to striking employees to return to work in order for workable solutions to the challenges faced by the state-owned enterprise could be hammered out.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring these difficult and trying times, the main focus of the NBC currently is to secure jobs. We appreciate and value our employees and if things were normal, we would have done all in our power to meet our employees halfway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The NBC bard said that it is seized with finding funds that will ensure that the NBC can function as a going concern.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The issue at the heart of the current problem is the reduced subsidy from the shareholder that will have grave consequences for the entire NBC.
