THE town of Okakarara in the Otjozondjupa Region is growing fast and there are new developments that are in the process to bring the town up to standard.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The chief executive officer (CEO) of the Okakarara Town Council, Ernest Katjiku, said that there are close to N$27 million being spent on the new housing developments.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Katjiku noted that the land has been allocated already and serviced and it has been paid. The Pamue and Okatumba locations are also serviced and Namibia Housing Enterprises (NHE) has constructed more than 40 houses.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said the ultra-low-cost housing programmes of the government continue to create a huge positive impact on low-income earners through the Build Together Programme and the Shack Dwellers Federation.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe town has the potential to be transformed into a logistics hub, should all important roads leading to it be upgraded to bitumen standard,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

He said that the road from Okondjatu to Okakarara will also be upgraded to bitumen standard because the idea is to set up a location for warehouses where the deliveries of goods that will boost the economy of the town it will be a pick-up point for the coastal line, northern and southern parts of Namibia and Angola including other parts of southern Africa.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are also faced with challenges that there is a water supply scarcity to a number of houses of only 100 and there is a need to construct a new pump for the town to cater for the new developing project \u201c, said Katjiku.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

He also urged the community to pay their municipal service fees if they want development to move fast in the town.<\/p>\n
