THE honour of state funerals has been bestowed on three men that played a significant role in the struggle for Namibia\u2019s liberation from its colonial yoke.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a statement issued by the Namibian Presidency President Hage Geingob announced that the late Joseph Ndeshipanda Kashea, the late Colonel (Rtd) Fillipus Amutenya Nandenga, as well as the late Salomon Frederick Gamatham will be buried with full state honours.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

On the recommendation of the National Honours Advisory Committee and in terms of Sub-Article (8) of Article 32 of the Namibian Constitution, under the powers vested in the President by Sub-Article (3)(h) of that Article read with section 3(1) and 4 of the Conferment of National Honours Act, 2012 (Act No. 11 of 2012), Dr Geingob conferred the honour of state funerals on Kashea, who died on 14 April 2021), Colonel Nandenga was also known as Commander Zulu. He died on 11 April 2021.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to the statement, President Geingob has proclaimed a one-day period of national mourning, with flags to be flown half-mast on Friday, 23 April 2021.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

On the recommendation of the National Honours Advisory Committee and in terms of Sub-Article (8) of Article 32 of the Namibian Constitution, under the powers vested in the President by Sub-Article (3)(h) of that Article read with section 3(1) and 4 of the Conferment of National Honours Act, 2012 (Act No. 11 of 2012), Dr Geingob also confers the honour of an official funeral on Salomon Frederick Gamatham, who died 12 April 2021.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The remains of Joseph Ndeshipanda Kashea will be interred at Ongulumbashe Shrine, in the Omusati Region, on a date to be agreed to by the family of the deceased.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The remains of Colonel (Rtd) Fillipus Amutenya Nandenga will be interred at Eenhana Memorial Shrine, in Ohangwena Region, on Saturday, 24 April 2021.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The remains of Salomon Frederick Gamatham will be interred at the Pionierspark Cemetery, in Windhoek, on Saturday 24 April 2021.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

President Geingob also extended condolences to the wives, children and family of these outstanding Namibians who contributed to the liberation struggle and development of an independent Namibia.<\/p>\n
