{"id":302259,"date":"2021-03-17T13:17:28","date_gmt":"2021-03-17T11:17:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=302259"},"modified":"2021-03-17T13:17:30","modified_gmt":"2021-03-17T11:17:30","slug":"angola-aware-of-drought-refugees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=302259","title":{"rendered":"Angola aware of drought refugees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Maria David<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>THE Namibian and Angolan governments are set to meet to discuss the unfolding humanitarian crisis surrounding the arrival of hundreds of so-called drought refugees over the past few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Angolan ambassador to Namibia, Jovelina Imperial Costa said that her government and that of Namibia are aware of refugees at Oshikango and other smaller towns along the border.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Costa revealed this during her visit to the border town in the Ohangwena Region on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"810\" src=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Angola-aware-of-drought-refugees.jpeg\" alt=\"Angola aware drought refugees Namibian Angolan governments humanitarian crisis\" class=\"wp-image-302266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Angola-aware-of-drought-refugees.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Angola-aware-of-drought-refugees.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Angola-aware-of-drought-refugees.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Angola-aware-of-drought-refugees.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Angola-aware-of-drought-refugees.jpeg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of Angolan nationals, especially young men and women, are flocking into Namibia seeking humanitarian help, following a severe drought being experienced in the southern part of that country.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some of the refugees claimed that there is a crisis of unemployment among the youth in Angolan, which has resulted in starvation. The people said that the absence of rain has left them destitute.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A group of young Angolan men said they are forced to sleep in the open under trees and that they hardly have any food. They only eat when local residents offer them food.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes we are aware of young Angolan men, who are here seeking employment opportunities while they have no proper immigration documents,\u201d Costa said while adding that the governments of both countries will meet next month to address the issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Costa urged citizens of both countries to adhere to the laws regulating cross-border movement to avoid arrest.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Governor of the Ohangwena Region, Walde Ndevashiya, who accompanied Costa during the visit to Oshikango, confirmed the planned governmental meeting in April.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is scheduled to take place in Angola,\u201d Ndevashiya stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The delegation of the two government officials travelled along the border and also had an audience with Angolan nationals camping in the field near the Okahauyulu border post where the Angolan police prevented the refugees to cross the border into Namibia.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Another group of Angolan drought refugees is camping near the Etunda east of Ruacana in the Omusati Region.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!-- MetaSlider 271797 not found --><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maria David \u00a0 THE Namibian and Angolan governments are set to meet to discuss the unfolding humanitarian crisis surrounding the arrival of hundreds of so-called drought refugees over the past few weeks. \u00a0 The Angolan ambassador to Namibia, Jovelina Imperial Costa said that her government and that of Namibia are aware of refugees at Oshikango &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":302260,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[24],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-302259","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.5 -
