{"id":301628,"date":"2021-02-27T22:06:05","date_gmt":"2021-02-27T20:06:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=301628"},"modified":"2021-02-27T22:06:08","modified_gmt":"2021-02-27T20:06:08","slug":"namibians-mourn-two-war-veterans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=301628","title":{"rendered":"Namibians mourn two war veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Placido Hilukilwa<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>BRIGADIER-GENERAL (retired) Yapuleni Leonard Uulenga, who passed away in a Windhoek hospital on 21 February at the age of 66, will be buried at Omugulugombashe memorial shrine in the Omusati Region on Monday. Photos: Contributed<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><a class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-prev swiper-button-prev swiper-button-white\" role=\"button\"><\/a><a class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-next swiper-button-next swiper-button-white\" role=\"button\"><\/a><a aria-label=\"Pause Slideshow\" class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_button-pause\" role=\"button\"><\/a><div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow_pagination swiper-pagination swiper-pagination-white\"><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Holo Uulenga was one of the small unit commanders who in the late 1970s were very much active in the North-Eastern front under Commander Matias Ndakolo Mbulunganga and his exploits in the war zone were narrated in books written by direct participants on the SADF side.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I left the country together with Leake Hangala in 1974, immediately followed by the group that included Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. Holo and others followed us a year later,&#8221; said Ben Ulenga, Holo&#8217;s elder brother.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When Namibia attained Independence, Holo joined the Namibia Defence Force (NDF) and progressively rose through the ranks to eventually become a general officer before going on retirement in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, he found a new job as head of protocol and security at the Swapo national headquarters in Windhoek.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He was also a commercial farmer.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Holo Uulenga is survived by his elderly mother, seven siblings, his wife, and nine children.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His State Funeral that will be conducted at the Omugulugombashe memorial shrine on Monday comes two days after another war veteran, Colonel (retired) George Mwauvikange Kaxuxwena &#8211; who died on February 16 at the age of 63 &#8211; was laid to rest at the Eenhana memorial shrine in the Ohangwena Region today.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kaxuxwena was the Chief Executive Officer of the 26 August Holdings, the business arm of the defense ministry.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!-- MetaSlider 271797 not found --><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":301633,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[33,24],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-301628","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking-news","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.5 -
