THE Namibia Airports Company (NAC) was successful in its urgent application brought to the high court to have Air Namibia liquidated after Windhoek High Court Judge, Kobus Miller gave an order of provisional liquidation of the national airline.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Air Namibia currently owes a total of N$714 million to the NAC and has debts totalling nearly, N$5.4 billion.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The provisional liquidation order will be in force until 26 March 2020 and will stop creditors from attaching the airline’s assets in a bid of recovering what is owed to them.<\/p>\n

In an urgent application which the NAC filed at the court on Wednesday, the state-owned airport operator stated that on 23 February 2021 Deputy Sheriff of Windhoek proceeded to attach an amount of approximately N$400 000 in a bank account of Air Namibia.<\/p>\n

Apart from this attachment, the Deputy Sheriff also proceeded to the Hosea Kutako International Airport to attach aircraft belonging to Air Namibia.<\/p>\n

The NAC stated that should this matter not be heard as one of urgency and should liquidation not be granted, Challenge Air will be allowed to obtain payment of the amount of N$400 000 from the Deputy-Sherriff of Windhoek which will allow for it to be preferred over other creditors such as the NAC which has not yet instituted action and who will not be able to obtain a judgement timeously, and hand in writ timeously so as to be able to share in the N$400 000.<\/p>\n

NAC chief executive officer Bisey \/Uirab also stated in an affidavit that the NAC rendered service to Air Namibia from 2014 at various airports and is yet to be paid in full.<\/p>\n
