helps Namibia to develop food security"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Staff Reporter<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>THE Brazilian Government has donated more than N$1.4 million to assist Namibia in attaining food security through focussed agricultural programs.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Namibia is ready to work with partners like Brazil and the World Food Programme that both have extensive experience in sustainably supporting communities to transform their ways of producing food.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the ceremony the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said that not only does Brazil host the World Food Programme Centre of Excellence against Hunger, the country has also switched from being a net importer of food to a net exporter of food in less than three decades through increased agricultural productivity.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Also speaking at the event, were Brazilian Ambassador, Jose Augusto Andrade and Dr. George Fedha from the World Food Program<br \/>Ambassador Andrade highlighted that this was the second donation to Namibia, following a donation to the Namibian Government of 29 metric tons of ready to use supplementary feeding which was distributed in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the attainment of the second Sustainable Development Goals which strives to \u201cend hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture\u201d the Government of Brazil donated one hundred thousand US dollars to the Government of Namibia.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The funds will support an integrated project to improve availability and access to nutritious food using a food systems approach in the Hardap, Kunene, Ohangwena, Omaheke, and Otjozondjupa regions.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Highlighting the lessons learned, Dr. George Fedha of the World Food Programme shared that the second phase of the project focuses on stimulating the local economy by enabling smallholder farmers to produce food that they can sell to local communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This was a lesson in providing sustainable solutions to communities,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!-- MetaSlider 271797
