{"id":301357,"date":"2021-02-19T07:26:57","date_gmt":"2021-02-19T05:26:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=301357"},"modified":"2021-02-19T07:27:00","modified_gmt":"2021-02-19T05:27:00","slug":"livelihoods-impacted-by-fmd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=301357","title":{"rendered":"Livelihoods impacted by FMD"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Maria David<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>OHANGWENA Regional Governor, Walde Ndevashiya, said the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in the northern regions of Namibia has drastically affected livelihoods and economic growth in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ndevashiya indicated that most of the people in the region makes a life out of subsistence farming and selling their meat products on the market.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to the outbreak of FMD, there was no business,\u201d he said.<br \/>However, Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, Calle Schlettwein said the local meat consumers and vendors can now move, slaughter, and sell goat and sheep carcasses, as the government plans to lift the restrictions on cattle movement in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1080\" height=\"810\" src=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Livelihoods-impacted-by-FMD.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-301352\" srcset=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Livelihoods-impacted-by-FMD.jpg 300w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Livelihoods-impacted-by-FMD.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Livelihoods-impacted-by-FMD.jpg 768w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Livelihoods-impacted-by-FMD.jpg 400w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Livelihoods-impacted-by-FMD.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Schlettwein stated that the last outbreak of FMD was reported on the 6th of January and if no other cases are recorded within the 15 days remaining, restrictions put in place to curb the further spread of FMD will be removed.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, traditional authorities in the Omusati Region requested the zoning of regions in the northern central communal areas for easy management of outbreaks of animal diseases.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ongandjera King, Johannes Mupya indicated that through collaboration they can root-out illegal movement of livestock to prevent the further spread of FMD in the regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!-- MetaSlider 271797 not found --><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":301358,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[24],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-301357","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.6 -
