scares villagers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Maria David<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>ABOUT 30 elephants that were spotted in the area of Omundaungilo in Ohangwena Region on Saturday were successfully driven back to Angola over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism (MEFT) spokesperson Romeo Muyunda confirmed the incident and said members of the community alerted authorities after some of the elephants started destroying recently planted crops.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow\" data-autoplay=\"true\" swiper-pagination-white\"><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were about 30 of the animals but all of them have returned back to Angola since Saturday,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Muyunda added that although the elephants have moved away from the village and back over the border, the MEFT has sent out a team to monitor the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the officials on the ground will not only monitor the movement of elephants but see if there is any more damage done by the elephants.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe team will assist farmers with claiming for damages,\u201d he said.<br \/>Muyunda also urged rural communities to be cautious at all times and to avoid moving around at night.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He further requested members of the community not to take the law into their own hands.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!--
