{"id":301162,"date":"2021-02-14T12:29:34","date_gmt":"2021-02-14T10:29:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=301162"},"modified":"2021-02-13T22:21:32","modified_gmt":"2021-02-13T20:21:32","slug":"fmd-checkpoints-meet-challenges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=301162","title":{"rendered":"FMD checkpoints meet challenges"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Maria David<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>THE lack of law enforcement agencies at some Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) checkpoints in the Oshikoto Region is hampering the work of the officials from delivering the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform who are patrol of livestock movement difficult.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Animal health technical Iipinge Isaiyas revealed these during a site inspection by Minister Calle Schlettwein at one of the temporary roadblocks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Isaiyas pointed out that the main challenge they face is road users refusing to adhere to the instructions by animal health officers found at the roadblocks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FMD-checkpoints-meet-challenges.jpg\" alt=\"FMD checkpoints law enforcement Foot Mouth Disease checkpoints Oshikoto Region\" class=\"wp-image-301163\" srcset=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FMD-checkpoints-meet-challenges.jpg 225w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/FMD-checkpoints-meet-challenges.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, Minister Schlettwein said they have engaged the Ministry of Safety and Security and receive a positive response that they will assist in the fight of FMD.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He stated that NamPol officials are expected to be deployed to the roadblocks in the next couple of days.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Isaiyas noted that with the allowance of red meat from the Southern areas, many people are taking the opportunity to get the meat anyway and refuses to provide clear proof as to where the meat originated.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The disease was first reported at Onamulunga village in Olukonda constituency of the Oshikoto region.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The disease then spread to other regions such as Oshana, Omusati, Ohangwena, and Kunene which were declared disease management areas, and strict measures were put in place.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thus far, the ministry has lifted the ban on goat movement, slaughtering, and selling in the northern area of the disease management areas as they pose no huge risk.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!-- MetaSlider 271797 not found --><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":301163,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[30,24],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-301162","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.6 -
