{"id":300728,"date":"2021-02-02T08:35:16","date_gmt":"2021-02-02T06:35:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=300728"},"modified":"2021-02-02T08:35:18","modified_gmt":"2021-02-02T06:35:18","slug":"residents-along-orange-riven-given-flooding-alert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=300728","title":{"rendered":"Residents along Orange Riven given flooding alert"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Staff Reporter<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>THE Orange River levels are increasing due to recent heavy rainfall developments in the Orange-Senqu Basin, which has resulted in an overflow from the upstream dams such as Vanderkloof.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>People who live along the river are thus being warned to be on high alert for flooding and take necessary precautions.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hydrological services of Namibia in a weather update for 1 February stated that the river level at the Blouputs hydrological station has increased over the weekend to 4.21m yesterday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The water level for Sendelingsdrift is currently at 1.75m.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Residents-along-Orange-Riven-given-flooding-alert.jpeg\" alt=\"Residents Orange Riven flooding alert heavy rainfall Orange-Senqu Basin\" class=\"wp-image-300731\" srcset=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Residents-along-Orange-Riven-given-flooding-alert.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Residents-along-Orange-Riven-given-flooding-alert.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Residents-along-Orange-Riven-given-flooding-alert.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Residents-along-Orange-Riven-given-flooding-alert.jpeg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><figcaption>RAINY SEASON: picture for illustrative purposes only.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStakeholders along the lower Orange River must be on high alert for flooding and take the necessary precautionary measures such as ensuring the safety of any water abstraction equipment,\u201d the weather service stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It further elaborated that satellite images over the past 24 hours indicate heavy rains over the northeastern part of the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Good rains are also observed over the north central regions of Namibia.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Zambezi River at Katima Mulilo continues to rise and was at 2.40m yesterday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Namibia Hydrological services stated that contingency planning for flood mitigation and recovery must be updated, upgraded and activated for the \/\/Karas, Hardap, Khomas, Erongo, Oshana, Omusati, Ohangwena, Kavango West, Kavango East and Zambezi regions in anticipation of forecasted heavy rainfall during this rainy season.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!-- MetaSlider 271797 not found --><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":300731,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[30,24],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-300728","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.5 -
