{"id":299898,"date":"2021-01-09T07:09:05","date_gmt":"2021-01-09T05:09:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=299898"},"modified":"2021-01-09T07:09:08","modified_gmt":"2021-01-09T05:09:08","slug":"covid-claims-two-more-healthcare-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=299898","title":{"rendered":"COVID claims two more healthcare workers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ni\u00ebl Terblanch\u00e9<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a week where the COVID-19 death rate increased sharply, two more healthcare workers succumbed to the scourge.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, announced the deaths of a 70-year-old man from Oshakati, a 22-year-old woman from Swakopmund, a 49-year-old woman from Keetmanshoop, a 44-year-old man from Windhoek, and a 47-year-old man from Opuwo. The two healthcare workers were among the five new fatalities ascribed to COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The five new COVID-29 deaths increased the death toll in Namibia to 245.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Shangula also announced that 573 new cases were registered in Namibia. He said the positive results were garnered from a specimen batch of 2 549 that was analysed by the various laboratories and added that the positivity rate of 22% is still very high.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The gender distribution of the new cases is 316 women and 257 men of which the youngest patient is a three-year-old baby and the oldest is an 89-year-old pensioner.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Windhoek recorded the highest number of new cases. 240 new cases were recorded in the Windhoek health district, 67 in Swakopmund, 51 in Walvis Bay, 37 in Otjiwarongo, 36in L\u00fcderitz, 27 in Tsumeb, 18 in Gobabis, 17 in Oshakati, 14 in Khorixas, 12 in Karasburg, nine each in Omaruru and Mariental, seven in Okahandja, six each in Usakos and Okakarara, five in Keetmanshoop, four eachin Rehoboth and Rundu, two in Nakudu, and one each in Andara and Grootfontein.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The health minister said the number of patients currently receiving care in the various hospitals countrywide remained high at 306 while the number of people receiving critical care in the various intensive care units reduced to 35.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Shangula also announced that 511 people were declared recovered and mentioned that the recovery rate of 85% is encouraging.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are currently 3 829 people that have COVID-19 in Namibia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!-- MetaSlider 271797 not found --><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":299890,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[33,24],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-299898","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking-news","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.6 -
