{"id":299513,"date":"2020-12-25T20:52:22","date_gmt":"2020-12-25T18:52:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=299513"},"modified":"2020-12-25T20:52:24","modified_gmt":"2020-12-25T18:52:24","slug":"covid-19-breaks-another-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=299513","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 breaks another record"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ni\u00ebl Terblanch\u00e9<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NEW COVID-19 cases registered in Namibia reached 683 on Christmas Day, a new record high.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The high number of positive test results comes from a specimen batch of 2 778 which represents an extremely high positivity ratio of 25%.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula indicated that the high number of new cases was a result of people approaching testing centres for travel certificates to leave the country over the Festive Season. He also said the sudden influx along with targeted testing caused a huge backlog at laboratories that technicians still have to catch up on.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The health minister announced the Christmas statistics and said that 388 people from Windhoek had positive test results. Swakopmund had 48 new cases, Oshakati 39, Walvis Bay 29, L\u00fcderitz 27, Andara 17, Usakos and Otjiwarongo had 15 new cases each, Tsumeb 13, Omaruru 11, Opuwo and Gobabis had nine new cases each, Okahandja eight, Outjo six, Karasburg, Rundu, Tsandi Ouapi, and Eenhana had five new cases each, Khorixas and Katima Mulilo four each, Onandjokwe, Grootfontein, and Okakarara had three new cases each, Keetmanshoop, Mariental, and Rehoboth had two new cases each while Omuthiya registered one new case.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said the gender distribution of the new cases is 374 women and 309 men of which the youngest patient is a three-day-old baby and the oldest is an 86 year-old pensioner.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Dr. Shangula, the number of patients that need hospitalisation reduced slightly while the number of patients in the various Intensive Care Units in the country remained the same at 36.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>No new deaths were announced on Christmas Day which means the death toll ascribed to COVID-19 remained at 187.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Shangula also announced the recovery of 404 patients and said that the recovery ratio is 83%.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!-- MetaSlider 271797 not found --><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":299514,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[33],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-299513","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.5 -
