AFTER Namibia registered a record number of new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the number of people that had positive test results decreased to 172 on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula announced the new cases and sad that the infection rate is still high at 14% after 1 245 samples were analysed.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The gender distribution of the new cases is 88women and 84 men of which the youngest patient is a six-year-old child and the oldest is a 78-year-old pensioner.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
At 95 more than half of the new cases were registered in Windhoek while 29 cases were registered at Karasburg. Luderitz had 14 new cases, Walvis Bay and Oshakatihad ten each, Opuwo had eight, Gobabis four, and Swakopmund and Engela had one new case each.<\/p>\n

Dr. Shangula said 27 of the 29 cases registered in Karasburg come from the Aussenkher area where seasonal workers have gathered to harvest table grapes.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
He also said that transmission of the virus amongst learners from various schools across the country remains high while the number of healthcare workers infected by SARS-CoV 2 also decline slightly.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The health minister also announced the recovery of 250 patients over the past 24 hours. At 236 the vast majority of recovered patients are from the Khomas Region while the Erongo and Ohangwena region registered five recoveries, The Karas Region three, and the Omaheke and Omusati regions had one recovery each.<\/p>\n

No new COVID-19 related fatalities were reported which means that the number held at 160.<\/p>\n
