causes huge damage"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ni\u00ebl Terblanch\u00e9<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A RAILWAY track that broke at a welded joint caused almost an entire train to derail about ten kilometres out of Otjiwarongo on the way to Kalkfeldt on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Several empty tanker cars normally used to transport sulphuric acid that is used in the concentration process of minerals mined in the mines of northern Namibia went off the rails and capsized.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Damage worth millions of dollars was caused to much of the rolling stock that went of the tracks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-slideshow aligncenter\" data-autoplay=\"true\" data-delay=\"5\" data-effect=\"slide\"><div Otjiwarongo, that visited the scene of the derailment said it seems as if one of the welded joints in one of the tracks broke.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe locomotives that were pulling the train were not damaged but the tanker cars behind it left the rails and some of them ended up on their sides,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She said that all the tanker cars were empty and that no chemical hazard was caused.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am an ardent enthusiast of everything related to trains and the railways and to see this kind of damage is heartbreaking,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An official of TransNamib confirmed that the derailment occurred early on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!-- MetaSlider
