INVESTIGATORS of the Anti-Corruption Commission swooped in on the Walvis Bay Municipality late on Wednesday afternoon to confiscate computers and files from the offices of three senior managers and one junior staff member in relation to millions of dollars that have gone missing from the local authority’s coffers.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Josefina Nghituwamata confirmed that the search warrant was issued earlier on Wednesday and that investigators executed the warrant on the eve of International Ant-Corruption Day.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
She confirmed the seizure of computer equipment and files of the Chief Executive Officer, the General Manager of Economic Development, the Property Manager as well as the computers and files of a junior employee.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to Nghituwamata, the search and confiscation of equipment and files are in relation to complaints received by the ACC over the past year as well as a recent criminal case that was registered during November by Knowledge Ipinge, the former Walvis Bay urban constituency councillor.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nghituwamata said no arrests have been made yet. She said that the investigation is still in its early stages and indicated that more equipment and files might still be confiscated in the ongoing inquiry.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
She said the ACC\u2019s investigation will ultimately determine if arrests will be necessary.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Although Nghituwamata did not want to put a specific amount to the missing funds that were supposed to finance mass land servicing and housing projects in Walvis Bay, she did mention that it amounts to millions of dollars.<\/p>\n
