FLYWESTAIR will make history in November when it will become the first privately-owned Namibian airline to operate a scheduled passenger route between Windhoek and Johannesburg.<\/p>\n

This follows after FlyWestair and South African airline, Airlink announced earlier this week that scheduled flights between Namibia and South Africa will resume after the opening of the International travel between the two neighbours.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Chief Executive Officer of the Namibia Airports Company, Bisey \/Uirab said the resumption of flights bodes well for Namibia and the company.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe reopening of routes are key and encouraging for airport operations. We are getting back to normal operations which can only bode well for revenue as we continue to facilitate economic recovery for our country. It has been slow but we have been confident that ready for the numbers to pick up as we adapt to the new normal during the COVID-19 Pandemic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Uirab confirmed that FlyWestair will restart the Windhoek to Cape Town route on 23 October 2020 from the Hosea Kutako International Airport and will be serving this route with two flights per week, on Mondays and Fridays.<\/p>\n

He said FlyWestair, will make history next month, when it will become the first privately-owned Namibian airline to operate a scheduled passenger route between Windhoek\u2019s Hosea Kutako International Airport and Johannesburg\u2019s O.R. Tambo International Airport.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe FlyWestair scheduled flights to Johannes burg will start on Tuesday, 3 November with two flights per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The fights will be scheduled in such a way as to connect with various international airlines through Johannesburg,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
\/Uirab also announced that SA Airlink recommenced with their Johannesburg to Walvis Bay International Airport route on 14 October 2020.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
He said that Airlink will serve the route on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The Windhoek-Cape Town route resumed on Monday 12 October 2020 and will be on served on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
FlyWestair Chief Executive Officer, Henri van Schalkwyk thanked the Namibia Airports Company and the Namibian Civil Aviation Authority for its proactive and responsive service required to start operating the new regional schedules.<\/p>\n

\u201cFlyWestair would also like to thank the general public for all the support and enthusiasm during the past months and we guarantee that we will provide the best scheduled passenger service for the coming months,\u201d He said.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
In the meantime, the international operations of Air Namibia remain on hold until further notice.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The national airline\u2019s spokesperson, Twaku Kayofa said that international flights have, however, not been suspended indefinitely.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe reasons for the suspension of flights are that borders of some countries, to which we operate, have not yet reopened. Air Namibia operates a network that requires multiple destinations in order to feed the network. Air Namibia will inform the public in advance regarding the restart of international flights,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said Air Namibia will, however, continue to offer charter flight operations worldwide.<\/p>\n
