{"id":295793,"date":"2020-09-08T14:34:10","date_gmt":"2020-09-08T12:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=295793"},"modified":"2020-09-08T14:34:13","modified_gmt":"2020-09-08T12:34:13","slug":"tourists-to-travel-to-their-pre-booked-destinations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=295793","title":{"rendered":"Tourists to travel to their pre-booked destinations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Marthina Mutanga<\/p>\n<p>THE Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism today announced that tourists entering the country can proceed to their pre-booked destinations and engaged in planned daily tourist activities and will not be quarantined in Windhoek upon their arrival from the Hosea Kutako International Airport as previously directed in the Covid-19 regulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Minister Pohamba Shifeta said that if the tourist intends to spend less than five days at the pre-booked facility, the tourist can proceed to the next destination and on day five, the tourist must be available for swabbing wherever they find themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tourists must also be reachable on day seven to receive the results of the swabbing.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the result is negative, the tourist is released from any surveillance. Photo: Marthina Mutanga<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Since the announcement of the implementation protocols of the Tourism Revival Initiative and opening of the Hosea Kutako International Airport, the industry has not seen any new bookings and in fact has had cancellations that have resulted in N$115.7 million being withdrawn from the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Shifeta noted that this had a direct negative cash-flow impact on businesses, which resulted in further salary cuts and or retrenchments.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This result, he said, necessitated a rethink in government\u2019s approach.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe tourism sector is highly competitive and Namibia is competing to attract tourists with countries from all over the world,\u201d explained Shifeta.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Shifeta, the fact that other countries in the region have opened up their borders with fewer restrictions has put Namibia at a disadvantage.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are, however, still bookings in the system, as tourists hope for more protocols that are appealing and arrangements to be put in place.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The implementation protocols seek to balance the necessary health and safety measures, while still appealing to international travellers that the sector so heavily depends on.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Prior to commencement, all the relevant authorities and institutions of service to tourists, such as airlines, border points, foreign missions and tour operators, will be informed and disseminated the necessary directives and documentation.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This includes a health declaration form, tourist facility health and safety checklist, and application forms for the certification of accommodation establishments.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Hosea Kutako International Airport, as the designated port of entry for the trial period of this initiative, has reported readiness in terms of having the necessary health and safety compliance measures in place to receive arrivals.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!-- MetaSlider 271797 not found --><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":295795,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[33,24],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-295793","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking-news","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.6 -
