{"id":295246,"date":"2020-08-22T12:30:29","date_gmt":"2020-08-22T10:30:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=295246"},"modified":"2020-08-22T12:30:32","modified_gmt":"2020-08-22T10:30:32","slug":"fire-destroys-ten-shacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=295246","title":{"rendered":"Fire destroys ten shacks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ni\u00ebl Terblanch\u00e9<\/p>\n<p>CHILDREN playing with matches and other flammable materials are believed to have caused yet another shack fire that decimated ten backyard shacks in Mondessa on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to an incident report provided by Inspector Daniel Gurirab, the Namibian Police in the Erongo Region, the fire started at about 13:00 in a backyard shack of a house in Tira Street.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cResidents and neighbours called the Swakopmund Fire Brigade to assists after their initial efforts to extinguish the fire did not succeed,\u201d Inspector Daniel Gurirab said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The fire brigade arrived soon after the fire broke out and brought the blaze that had already spread to other shacks in the same yard, under control.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"540\" height=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Fire-destroys-ten-shacks.jpeg\" alt=\"Fire destroys ten shacks children playing matches flammable materials\" class=\"wp-image-295247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Fire-destroys-ten-shacks.jpeg 169w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/Fire-destroys-ten-shacks.jpeg 540w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><figcaption>UP IN SMOKE: The remnants of ten backyard shacks that burned to the ground in Mondessa on Friday.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the end, ten shacks were destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Adri Goosen, the Chief of the Swakopmund Fire Brigade, said that no injuries or deaths occurred as a result of the fire.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He said that a woman who had an asthma attack at the scene of the fire was, however, transported to the Swakopmund State Hospital for medical assistance.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this stage the actual cause of the fire is under investigation. People on the scene of the fire indicated that children playing with matches and other flammable material could have caused the blaze,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Goosen noted that so far most of the shack fires reported in Swakopmund occur in Tira Street in the Mondessa residential area.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The fire chief urged people, especially those living in shacks, to be extra vigilant when using candles, matches and other items that could cause a fire especially when children are involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"alignnormal\"><!-- MetaSlider 271797 not found --><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":10,"featured_media":295247,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[33,24],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-295246","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-breaking-news","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.5 -
