{"id":282812,"date":"2019-11-01T08:56:59","date_gmt":"2019-11-01T06:56:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=282812"},"modified":"2019-11-01T08:57:02","modified_gmt":"2019-11-01T06:57:02","slug":"fishing-season-starts-with-a-reduced-lobster-quota","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/?p=282812","title":{"rendered":"Fishing season starts with a reduced lobster quota"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ni\u00ebl Terblanch\u00e9<\/p>\n<p>TO allow the resource to regenerate, the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for rock lobster has been reduced significantly for the coming season.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Minister of Information and Communication Technology Stanley Simataa made the announcement on the decision taken by Cabinet to allow right holders a quota of 180 metric tons for the 2019\/2020 fishing season which is set to commence tomorrow and will run until the end of April next year.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Total Allowable Catch for this season is admittedly low but we have to allow the resource to recover. An assessment done by several scientists and experts found that the numbers of rock lobster ar depressed and that it will need time to improve again,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The total, TAC for Hake for the 2019\/2020 fishing season which will also start tomorrow has been set at 154,000 metric tons. The season will run until 30 September 2020. The quota did not change from the TAC endorsed by Cabinet for the previous season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"764\" src=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/74664669_2546743268725951_6072254303869861888_o-1024x764.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-282813\" srcset=\"https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/74664669_2546743268725951_6072254303869861888_o-1024x764.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/74664669_2546743268725951_6072254303869861888_o-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/74664669_2546743268725951_6072254303869861888_o-768x573.jpg 768w, https:\/\/informante.web.na\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/74664669_2546743268725951_6072254303869861888_o.jpg 1335w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"js_2\" class=\"_5pbx userContent _3576\" data-testid=\"post_message\" data-ft=\"{&quot;tn&quot;:&quot;K&quot;}\">\n<p>The minister highlighted these resolutions that stems from the 18th Decision making Cabinet meeting held on 29 October 2109. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Simataa stressed that the TAC should not be confused with applications still pending for fishing rights. <\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe TAC was allowed to those companies that have fishing rights. There are fishing rights that are still valid and they are not subject to the rights granting process,\u201d Simataa said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the minister it has taken some time to engage in the thorough due process involved in issuing fishing rights but it needs to be concluded fairly.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The TAC\u2019s are based on recommendations from the fisheries scientists employed by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources.
