OHANGWENA Regional Commander for the Namibian Force Commissioner Simian Shinedima Shindinge launched the international \u201cTurn Back Crime\u201d campaign on Monday in an effort to minimize incidents of criminal behavior in the region.
In 2015, former President Hifikepunye Pohamba launched Interpol\u2019s \u201cTurn Back Crime\u201d global campaign at Oshakati of Oshana region, with the aim of raising awareness on the dangers posed by organized crime and its impact on everyday life.
The launch of the campaign coincided with the Regional Councils Annual Sports Tournament Champion day at Eenhana, in support of the current initiative and programmes on community policing, the management of Namibian Police Force resolved to roll out the initiatives in all 14 regions.
\"\"According to Shindinge, the campaign is an innovative global effort to increase awareness and reduce crime by empowering the citizens and helping them to understand that even the day-to-day decisions, especially as consumers, can have a profound international impact and may even help combat transnational organized crime.
\u201cThe main objective is to help the general public worldwide to understand crime in all its forms, understand how close transnational crime are to their homes and to understand how they can protect themselves against such crimes in their daily lives,\u201d said Shindinge.
He stated that the campaign is also reaching out to business community and policy makers in a bid to form a united front against contemporary crime challenges and to support the ongoing efforts of the global law enforcement community.
He called on the community of Ohangwena to unit in fight against crime in the region and to stay safe by changing the behaviours of community.
Since its official launched in 2014, the campaign has now been seen in 30 Interpol member continents such as Asia, Europe, America and Africa, while 30 additional countries are committed to launch \u201cTurn Back Crime\u2019 in the near future.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
