THE Windhoek Vocational Training Centre (WVTC) \u00a0is under fire after it emerged that it has been offering a computer-training course since 2016 that is not registered with the Namibia Training Authority (NTA).<\/p>\n

Approximately 200 trainees, of which the first intake is expected to graduate in August this year, remain in the dark on whether or not their qualifications will be accepted in the job market.<\/p>\n

A trainee who spoke to Informant\u00e9 on condition of anonymity said that the students have only received a Level 1 certificate, which covers the first six months of intake of the Junior Computer Technician Course.<\/p>\n

WVTC Principal, Paulus Haukongo, confirmed that NTA only accredited the Level 1 certificate and that levels 2-4 at the training centre have not yet been accredited.<\/p>\n

He, however, said that an internal agreement with the Institute of Information Technology (IIT) was met to cater for the VTC Junior Computer Technician trainees.<\/p>\n

An urgent management meeting was called at the school on Tuesday, he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe course was first introduced in 2016 as a 6-month course, registered with the NTA. \u00a0It was then extended to three years. Management allowed us to register for the course without informing us that it was not registered with the NTA. We feel so betrayed. Right now, we are set to graduate and still have not received certificates except the level one certificate. To date, we have not seen our statements of results. The final year students who wrote exams six months ago equally have not received their examination results,\u201d the student said.<\/p>\n

The Namibian National Student Organisation(NANSO) has since called for a meeting with the WVTC management.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe, together with the trainees, are of the opinion that the WVTC\u2019s conduct towards student issues falls below the standard of quality education and demand that the management writes a comprehensive explanation on the issue and how it plans to resolve it,\u201d NANSO Secretary-General Simon Taapopi said in a letter addressed to WVTC.<\/p>\n

The trainees are also claiming that the school deducted funds from them for materials they never received.<\/p>\n

The Head of Training, Doris Nangolo confirmed receipt of the letter, but declined to comment further.<\/p>\n

Failure to respond today with result in civil litigation at the high court on an urgent basis to seek relief, NANSO warned.<\/p>\n
