MALINA Designs creates unique pieces.<\/p>\n

The designer who showcased for the first time at last year\u2019s Windhoek Fashion Week brought originality and sophistication to the ramp with her incredible mixture of the traditional odelela fabric with dark silky hues.<\/p>\n

Informant\u00e9 caught up with the young and buzzing designer who shared her passions on capturing unique elements of couture clothing and traditional wear all at once, as well as her aspirations for the Namibian fashion scene.<\/p>\n

Malina, real name Maija-Liisa Nautende, says that her designs are inspired by her culture and ethnicity.<\/p>\n

The designer states that she frequently plays around with the odelela material, which is of Finnish origin and has gradually been adopted into the modern day Aawambo traditional attire.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of my garments had a mixture of the Oshiwambo traditional material. I used a slight patter on each just to show that one can do more with it. I also incorporate shiny navy blue, reds, black and whites which complimented all odelela materials I could get my hands on.\u00a0 It just gave it a more modern feel,\u201d Malina explained.<\/p>\n

The young designer added that she naturally enjoyed making clothes as a teenager and later on enrolled at the Cape Academy of Fashion, and Pombili fashion mentoring, after which she started her own business.<\/p>\n

Malina concludes that she would like to grow her brand, and be more involved in the fashion scene by showcasing more collections.<\/p>\n

Assembling the bright and dark pinks of the Odelela with complimentary shades, Malina\u2019s designs ooze aesthetic renewal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
