NAMIBIA’S golden girl and latest Doha women marathon bronze medalist, Helalia Johannes, pulled off another sensational performance a week after her Doha performance to win the Joburg leg of the Spar Women’s 10km challenge in a record time of 33:16 minutes yesterday.
This was her sixth consecutive record-breaking win in the Grand Prix series, in addition to the many world titles that she holds.
Gerda Steyn came in second in a time of 34:28 minutes, while last year’s Joburg winner, Irvette van Zyl took third place in 34:40.
Johannes was quoted in recent media reports expressing satisfaction about the event and her road to recover.
“I prepared very well for the marathon and I think that I was able to do well here because I really am super fit. I am very happy to have won again,” she added.
