Helalia crowned as MTC sport star of the year

NAMIBIA’S long distance runner, Helalia Johannes was on Saturday evening crowned as the MTC Sports Star and Sportswoman of the year, during the Namibia Annual Sports Awards held in Ondangwa.

 

Helalia, who won awards valued at N$300 000, was competing at the World Military Games in China while the award ceremony was held in Namibia.
According to Helalia’s coach Robert Kaxuxewna, who also won the chairman’s award, Helalia was not around as she won the women’s 5 000 metre gold at the World Military Games on the same day.

 

Also walking away with the double award was Archer Quinn Reddig, who won the juniors sportswoman and Nored People’s Choice Prizes awards.
Meanwhile, the MTC junior sportsman award was scooped by Delano Muller, while the senior award was awarded to Jannie Meuwesen.

Emilia Iyambo walked away with the Nampower Junior Woman with Disability award, while Bradley Murere scooped the men’s award. Johannes Nambala and Lahja Ishitile walked away with the senior awards respectively.

 

Furthermore, Grant Dodds was crowded as winner of the Namdia Coach of the Year prize, with Fillemon Mweya winning the best umpire award; beach volleyball and amateur golf shared the best team prizes, while the Basketball Artist School and Amateur Wrestling also shared the development programme of the year prize.

 

Sheefeni Nikodemus of The Namibian newspaper was crowned as the Sports Journalist of the year and Johannes Shilongo walked away with the best overall community inspirational award.

 

Moreover, Carol Garoes, Vetumbuavi Veii, Bravo Mufeti, Elifas Shivute, Jason Petrus and Carlos Kambaekwa received lifetime awards for their contribution to sports over the years.
