THE Brave Gladiators as well as the Young Gladiators will both open up their respective campaigns at the 2019 COSAFA Women’s tournament in South Africa with matches against Botswana and Mozambique.
The Namibian National Women’s team will feel the absence of the desperately needed the services and experience of foreign-based players to help them secure their first victory.
The match between Namibia and Botswana is scheduled for and will take place at the Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
Joining the senior women’s team will be the Young Gladiators who have set their sights on improving on previous results of the competition.
Former Brave Warriors player Robert Nauseb will assist former Gladiator, Uerikondjera Kasaona who was selected as the National team coach.
“We are very fit as we played a couple of games against the Under-20 team. We are ready to compete and not just to participate. We are hoping to get out of the group stage and from there we want nothing less than the final”, said Kasaona.
Namibia have been drawn in Group B along with Zambia, Mauritius and Botswana for the 12 team competition. It will be hard first round as only the top team in each pool will advance to the semi-finals, along with the top third-place side.
The Under-20 team will also open the tournament when they play in a Group A clash against Mozambique today, before a clash against hosts South Africa on Saturday.
The youngsters will finish their pool round against Zimbabwe on August 5, with only the top two teams in each group that will advancing to the semi-finals.
