President Hage Geingob visted Kalkfeld in the Otjozondjupa Region on Friday as part of a series of regional visits and town-hall meetings for consultations and where he listened to feedback from the community while assessing the prevailing drought situation and also discussing possible interventions.
State House Press Secretary, Alfredo Hengari said that the President met with community of Kalkfeld where an assessment of the alarming drought that has affected the country was made. Possible intervention measures were also discussed with the community who attended.
The Head of State have proceed from Kalkfeld to Otjiwarongo for a town-hall Meeting Swannevelder Community Hall to assess the impact of drought, and relief measures to reassured communities that Government will do everything possible to minimize loss of livestock.
The Namibian government has declared a national state of emergency with respect to the drought that I currently devastating the Namibian agricultural sector.
Namibia has not been left out of the effects of climate change created by the phenomenon known as “El-Nino”.
