THE ruling Swapo Party on Saturday kick-started its election campaign for this year’s Presidential and National Assembly elections during a colourful event addressed by party president and Namibia Head of State, Hage Geingob, at Outapi in the Omusati Region.
Launching the party’s Election Manifesto at the northern town, Geingob described the document as “a roadmap towards a brighter future”.
Geingob said that his party maintained its political success in more than six consecutive national elections due to the evolution of ideas, continuity of leadership and unity of purpose, what is well captured in the notion of the legacy continues”.
He pointed out that his party has successfully navigated the first phase of the struggle under the leadership of Founding President Sam Nujoma, followed by a period of stability and consolidation under the wise leadership of Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba.
Dr. Geingob said he was entrusted with the task of ushering Namibia into an era of prosperity, what he described as a daunting task.
However, he is confident that Swapo possesses the capacity and work ethic to deliver on this second phase of the struggle.
The election manifesto launching event was attended by party leaders, including Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba and a huge crowd of members and supporters.
Founding President Sam Nujoma was the notable absentee.
