TWO men accused of raping a female friend in Rehoboth after a drinking spree was denied bail when they made their first appearance before magistrate Desmond Beukes.
Simon Simon and Taba Kavela allegedly raped a 22-year-old woman on 15 February at Rehoboth’s block E.
According to the police, the trio went out to a local club and thereafter proceeded to the suspects’ house. It is alleged that the men took turns to rape her.
The incident was only reported on Friday and the suspects were arrested soon after. They were denied bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the offence, the administration of justice and because investigations are still at an early stage. It is also feared that Simon and Kavela will interfere with investigations.
The duo has since opted to apply for legal aid and are set to return to court on 28 March. Prosecutor Victor Mutumbulwa represents the state.
