FOUR men who were locked up on charges for violent crimes such as rape and armed robbery escaped from the Henties Bay Police Station and the Namibian Police in the Erongo Region requested the public assist them in tracing the escapees.
The 19-year-old Johny Nuseb, Josef Ganaseb (24) and Markus Tauxab (25) were all awaiting trial on charges of rape and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The fourth prisoner, The 21-year-old Andreas David was awaiting trial on a charge on a charge of armed robbery at the time of their escape.
According to the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, The four trial awaiting prisoners escaped from the holding cells on Saturday afternoon at about 17:00.
“It is alleged that the four trial awaiting prisonersmanaged to cut the bars on the door that leads to the open area adjacent to the cell and further cut the bars covering the outside holding area with an unknown object. They climbed out of the holding area and escaped over the roof of the building.”
An immediate search was launched for the four men that escaped from lawful custody but according to Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu none of them has been re-arrested yet.
Any person who knows the whereabouts of the escapees is requested to contact Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu ate 081 246 4757 or Detective Warrant Officer Sakaria Shikalepo, the Unit Commander Henties Bay Criminal Investigation Unit at 081 273 5662 with their information. Such persons can also give their information at the nearest Police Station.
