A SUSPECTED drug dealer, who allegedly attempted to flee from members of the joint task team participating in Operation Kalahari Desert, was shot and wounded when he failed to heed calls from officers to stop running.
According to the Khomas Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Abner Agas, who attended the scene of the incident near the old Single Quarters personally the man in his early 30’s was found at a “drug house” in the Uukwamatshi area.
“The suspect attempted to run from officers participating in Operation Kalahari Desert and efforts to arrest him ended in him being wounded,” he said.
The senior detective indicated that the man was wounded in his chest but added that the investigation into the incident is still at a very early stage.
The incident occurred at the intersection Market and Mungunda Street and bystanders said that it was a soldier of the Namibian Defence Force who wounded the man.
The wounded suspect was taken to the Katutura State Hospital for medical treatment.
