PROMINENT South African lawyers, Mike Hellens and Dawie Joubert, who flew into Windhoek to represent former fisheries minister, Bernard Esau and former justice minister, Sacky Shanghala, during their formal bail application in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court, has been arrested while waiting for court proceedings to begin.
It was discovered that the high level legal brains did not have the necessary permits from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration to perform work in Namibia.
The two South Africans had their passports confiscated by immigration officials while senior officers from the Namibian Police assisted affected the arrest outside the courtroom. They were led away to the court’s holding cells.
Hellens was supposed to represent Esau is and Joubert was supposed to represent Shanghala.
