TRAGEDY struck when the 14-year-old Ndahambelela Ndemudjapaana Daniel and the 13-year-old Prius Tateyetu Fillemon drowned in an earth dam near their village while they were on a traditional fishing expedition that went horribly wrong.
According to police spokesperson Kaume Itumba the tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening at around 19:30 when the two youngsters were busy fishing in an earth dam near the Hengobe village in the Ohangwena Region.
The incident happened.
Both boys were residing in the nearby Omunyekadi village and were part of a bigger group of people who went fishing in the dam.
Traditionally, permission to catch fish in the oshanas and earth dams is granted by the village headman only after community elders have determined that the level of the water is low and no longer poses danger to life and the water itself is no longer fit for human consumption.
According to police spokesperson Kaume Itumba the police are currently investigating to find out what exactly transpired on Saturday evening.
