A SEVENTY-EIGHT-YEAR-OLD woman died on the spot while several passengers were slightly injured when the driver of a Toyota pick-up (N153041W) lost control over the vehicle causing it to leave the road and overturn.
According to the Omusati Region’s police spokesperson Lineekela Shikongo, the incident occurred at Ondjeke village on the main road between Omakange and Iitananga Monday evening.
It is alleged that the driver of a white Toyota Hilux – with a trailer and 14 passengers – was driving from Iikokola village in the Tsandi constituency towards Okatjuuru village in the Kunene Region when the trailer suddenly swerved, causing him to lose control over the vehicle.
Irya Nyowa Amwaama (78) died on the scene of the accident while the other passengers sustained slight injuries and were immediately rushed to the Tsandi District Hospital for treatment.
The police are investigating cases of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving.
