Easter weekend rain surprise

Niel Terblanché
MOTORISTS travelling from Windhoek to Uhlenhorst had to use an alternative route after a heavy rain shower in the area of Dordabis to the east of Windhoek rendered the gravel road between the two small towns temporarily unusable after floodwater inundated it on Friday evening.
Heavy rain showers were reported between Okahandja and Karibib. The rain caused many dry rivers and rivulets in the area between Okahandja, Karibib and Omaruru to flood with storm water and raised hopes that the Swakoppoort dam might have experience some inflow of water.
Several other isolated rain showers were reported over the northern and central parts of Namibia over the last 24 hour.
Although no official measurements were available it was reported that light rain fell in the area of Twyfelfontein to the north west of Windhoek.
Further south and east rain was reported in Otjiwarongo and surrounding areas.
Rain also fell in an around Windhoek. Wet and poor visibility conditions on the road to the Hosea Kutako International Airport, to the east of the capital, were the cause of a motor vehicle accident on Friday evening.
More isolated thunder showers are expected for areas over the north western, central and south eastern parts of Namibia. Partly cloudy and warm conditions are forecast for the rest of the country while at the coast cloudy and cool conditions are to be expected.
