Deliverance lands prophet in jail for rape

Niël Terblanché

A PASTOR from the Burning Fire Ministries in Swakopmund, the 31-year-old Paulus Sackeus Panduleni, who stands accused of rape, kidnapping and common assault on two young female members of his congregation, was remanded in police custody until the end of January next year.

According to the report about the heinous crimes provided by Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Panduleni on various occasions convinced both of his victims that they were in need of deliverance in order to have sexual intercourse with them.

Panduleni reportedly did this with his first victim on several occasions since 2017. The pastor’s provision of deliverance for his first victim ended in January 2019 when her parents started complaining to him that she was away from home to many times and for long periods at a time.

It is further alleged that Panduleni at one stage during a deliverance session locked his first victim in a room for almost three weeks and threatened to hurt her if she complained.

When he was alone with the young woman he would sometime hit her with a belt while forcing her to have sex with him.

According to deputy commissioner Iikuyu the victim was 19 when the, kidnapping, rape and assault on her started.

The second victim is also a 21-years-old woman whose torture started in February this year and only ended in May when she started complaining to other members of the congregation about what was happening.

It is alleged that Panduleni also convinced the young woman that she is need of deliverance during his services. Once they were alone he would force his victim to have sex with him. He would also slap her in the face while in the act.

The victims both told investigators that they would travel to the pastor’s various congregations in Henties Bay, Swakopmund and Walvis Bay to attend services. It was during these services that he would suddenly tell his victims that they are in need of deliverance. They also alleged that he would drug them and that they often woke up in strange houses with the pastor already on top of them.

Panduleni made his first appearance on the charges of rape, kidnapping and common assault in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Friday. He was not afforded bail and will make his next appearance on 29 January 2020.

It is alleged that Pastor Panduleni wields a lot of power over members of his congregations and that more young women and even under aged girls might have fallen victim to his wicked ways.

Any person which might have a complaint in this regard is requested to get in touch with the nearest police station.
